Today, an organization of "Republicans for Harris Martin" announce their support for Harris Martin as the next PA House Representative to the 18th Legislative District. After careful deliberation this group has concurred that leadership change is in order for the 18th district and indeed in keeping with the "Clean Sweep Movement" throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Voters deserve better results from their representatives, especially after sitting in office for 12 years. During that time we have seen representatives' salaries and perks more than double and place the state of PA among the top five states in the nation while tax increases were not far behind. The voters were promised tax relief, which was just a promise and the solution was an insult. Jobs continue to leave the commonwealth through outsourcing in a number suggested at nearly 2000 per month. As these jobs are outsourced out of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania so goes the tax revenue those corporations paid into our state tax system. However, priorities seem to have gone to such interests as gambling and trash importation. Bensalem Township, located in the 18th House District, will soon be home to a gambling institution in the form of a slots parlor owned by foreign international interests. We now have the distinction of having the nations largest combined trash dumps located in lower Bucks County.
Our current representative, Rep. Gene DiGirolamo, at taxpayer expense, along with other representatives promote themselves for public office with a flood of public service announcements through mailings and the use of public cable showings just before election time - we are reminded of fish mongers who peddle their fish. You never hear them crying foul fish today.
Those politicians who seek re-election through this avenue and place political signs falsely claiming they even have the support of voters from the opposite party while avoiding public debate do not deserve recognition, endorsement or re-election.
Bensalem Township, a town of 60,000 residents has a public television channel BTC22, yet Representative DiGirolamo has not offered to debate his opponent on the issues of the day and allow the voters to see and hear the candidates through this forum. Could he be seeking safe harbor through the local Republican Party, which controls a majority of the local township elected offices? Is there any reason why Bensalem Township would deny Rep Gene DiGirolamo and his opponent, Harris Martin access to the use of the township facilities and the airing of a public debate on public television?
Republicans for Harris Martin proudly endorse Harris Martin in the race for the 18th House Seat.
