Gene DiGirolamo has repeatedly told voters that he voted against the notorious legislative pay raise last summer. However, a review of the bill's voting history reveals that DiGirolamo actually voted in favor of bringing the measure to the floor in the middle of the night.
"DiGirolamo had a chance to keep this unconstitutional legislation from reaching the house floor and chose to support it rather than oppose it. He chose to walk in lockstep with the leadership and ignore the people and the Pennsylvania constitution", said his Democratic challenger, Harris Martin.
Mr. Martin went on to state, "If I were in DiGirolamo's shoes I would have been screaming to the high heavens and using whatever procedural tactics I could muster to stop the vote from ever going to the floor". The vote was cast on July 7th, 2005 on House Bill 1521, a motion to suspend the rules.

By voting to suspend the rules, DiGirolamo became a co-conspirator and supporter of the pay raise legislation. He helped move it along rather than fight it.
Martin said, "Voters in the 18th district, Bensalem and part of Lower Southampton need to know the whole truth about the pay raise, and DiGirolamo hasn't come clean about the part he played".
